Batla House is an upcoming Bollywood film inspired by the events of the controversial Operation Batla House which took place on 19th September 2008. The film stars John Abraham in the lead role as a police officer named Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and is directed by Nikhil Advani. Batla House is scheduled to be released on 15th August 2019.
The first trailer was dropped on 10th July, which gave us the first glimpse of the nationalistic movie with John in the lead. This is the fourth run of John starring in a nationalistic movie after Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran, Satyamev Jayate and Romeo Akbar Walter. He plays the role of DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who narrates the whole story of the encounter. John’s character is put through a lot of pressure amid the tensions from the public and the media. The character remains strong and delivers some bold dialogues even in the darkest of the hours. The trailer shows some of the stunts like John crushing a mobile phone with his bare hands.
What’s the story behind the controversial operation?
Batla House Encounter, also known as Operation Batla House, took place in the locality of Jamia Nagar, New Delhi. The operation was of investigating for suspected terrorists from Indian Mujahideen terrorist group which quickly turned ugly and turned into a full scale encounters with both sides firing at will. Out of five suspected terrorists, two were shot dead, and the other two were arrested. One of the terrorists escaped but was caught later.
The encounter raised a lot of suspicion on the police department, mostly from the Human Rights Organisation and especially from the teachers and students of Jamia Milia Islamia University. Everyone didn’t acknowledge the authenticity of the encounter and questioned the Police Department. Later on, the court found the terrorist students guilty, but the questioning among the media and the people still carried on. Encounter specialist Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred during the encounter.
